Theme: OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS

Text: “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” – James 1:12.

Comment: Ordinarily, it is an irony to be joyful in the midst of temptations but the Holy Bible says, “…count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations.” (James 1:2) The Almighty God is always faithful to His promises, “…(for he is faithful that promised;).” – Hebrews 10:23, Jeremiah 33:14 etc.

The Holy Bible clearly shows that the Creator and Possessor of the Universe, blesses His true worshippers who remain faithful to Him in times of temptation with immortality to the Saints and eternal life to those of the Other Sheep class. The stories of the ancient patriarchs and how they were blessed by God for being faithful to Him in times of trouble are clear manifestations of the reality of the text for today. For instance, God blessed the Prophet Job for his faith in the midst of temptations, “So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning…” (Job 42:12) The case of Daniel, the three faithful Jews and a host of other faithful worshippers of God are examples for us to follow by God’s grace in order to overcome temptations. “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgement to be punished.” – 2 Peter 2:9.
