Text: “And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for hecommandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him”. – Luke 8:25.
Comment: In one of Christ’s missionary tours across the seas, his mortal nature played out when the Master fell asleep in the boat. Suddenly, there arose a fierce storm by the Wicked One who saw it as an opportunity to destroy the son of God. The ferocity of the wind and threat of a sinking boat stirred the disciples to cry to the Lord saying, “Master, master, we perish.” – Luke 8:24.
Christ demonstrated the power his Father conferred on him when he rebuked the unseen enemy, Satan the devil, the evil force behind the tempest and there came a sudden calm to the amazement of the disciples who exclaimed: “What manner of man is this! for hecommandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him” as in the leading text for today.
Elsewhere, Christ had told his disciples that they need the type of faith that can transform impossibilities to realities: “Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.” – Matthew 21:21.
