Theme: SERVING GOD IN SINCERITY AND IN TRUTH

Text: “A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth. It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.” – Ecclesiastes 7:1, 2.

Comment: God Almighty has always blessed and encouraged His children who are faithful. These include: Noah who was said to be “a just man and perfect in His generations” and that he “walked with God”, (Genesis 6:9); Job who was perfect and upright and one that feared God and eschewed evil, (Job 1:1); Zechariah the Priest and his wife Elizabeth who “walked in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless”, (Luke 1:6); Nathanael was described by the Lord Jesus Christ as “an Israelite indeed in whom is no guile”, (John 1:47). Joseph, while serving his master Portipher was said to be so honest that his master did not bother to cross check about anything in his house and made him overseer of his house. The fear of God made Joseph to refuse to do anything unseemly with his master’s wife. (Genesis 39:8, 9.) “My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause … My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.” – Proverbs 1:10-18.
