Theme: THE POWER OF PRAYER

Text: “Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John ” – Luke 1:13.

Comment: The text for today was the declaration of the Angel Gabriel to Zacharias concerning his wife, Elisabeth. It is on record that they were blameless before God. but they had no child. And they were well stricken in years. (Luke 1: 5-7) When it was God’s time, as Zacharias officiated as a priest in the temple, an angel of the Lord appeared to him and said: “Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John ” – Luke 1:8-14.

True to the word of the angel, Elisabeth became pregnant and in her old age she brought forth a man child who grew and became the famous fore-runner of Christ our Saviour. (Luke 1:23-57) We can see how it is rewarding to be patient in waiting on the Lord while continuing to practice righteousness.

Nothing should stand in our way as a barrier to worshipping and praying to the Almighty God. Not even age, childlessness, sickness, unemployment, oppression, marital issues, hardship, death, etc. should make us lose focus and fall from the way of God. Saint Paul admonished Christians thus: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword… For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, …shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:35-39.
