Theme: THE REWARD OF FAITH

Text: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16.

Comment:  God’s love for the human race was expressed in the sending of Jesus Christ, His dear son to give his life as a ransom for the out-of-favour mankind. Salvation is hinged on faith: John the apostle writes: “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” – 1 John 4:9.

The essence of instructing Moses to set up a serpent of brass on a pole in the wilderness was typical of victim’s survival in looking at the brass serpent (Numbers 21:4-9). The antitypical is Christ as he himself declared: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” – John 3:14,15.

To the believers in Rome writes Apostle Paul: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5:8,9). “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” – John 3:36.
