Theme: WHO IS ON THE LORD’S SIDE?

Text: “And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much. Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.” –  2 Kings 10:18, 19.

Comment: The commission given Jehu was to destroy the house of Ahab and stamp out the worship of Baal from the land.  To get them together in one place, Jehu used wisdom by instructing that the worshippers of Baal should gather and that he would join them for worship.  To make it clearer which side they stood he directed that they should wear their vestments.  Accompanied by Jehonadab,  Jehu directed that all of the Baal worshippers be killed. (2 Kings 10:19-25) Though God Almighty is longsuffering, He acts decisively in judging His people when they persistently break His laws in spite of admonitions. It is also significant that even though most of the people had compromised their faith or even backslided completely, there were still those who remained faithful to God. (2 Kings 10:23; 1 Kings 19:18) We should maintain our faith and not compromise with the devil.  Jesus Christ  says,  “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. “ (Matthew 6:24) We should pray God to give us the faith to stand in the face of fiery temptation and to follow the way of escape the Lord provides us from the snares of the devil. – 1 Corinthians 10:13.
