Text: “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” – Matthew 16:24, 26
Comment: Oblivious of the fact that all good things of the earth belong to the Lord, and He gives them to His faithful ones who keep His word of truth, there are people who live their lives as if the parameter for measuring success lies in the abundance of things, they are able to acquire. This is a very wrong approach to life. It should be borne in mind that our Lord Jesus Christ was in no way referring to any physical cross, but the believers’ commitment and preparedness to suffer inconveniences, want and other challenging circumstances in his bid to attain true discipleship. (Philippians 1:29; 2 Timothy 3:12) Unfortunately, Lot’s wife lost knowledge of the fact that the Almighty God was able to restore in several folds, whatever acquisition the family was leaving behind. St. Paul exhorts us that God is even “able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”. – Ephesians 3:20
