Theme: TO DO GOOD AND TO COMMUNICATE, FORGET NOT

Text: “Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and an hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on asses.” – 1 Samuel 25:18.

Comment: When David and his soldiers were in distress of lack of food in the battlefield, he sent emissaries to Nabal, a rich man to assist him with some victuals. Nabal’s disdainful response and allegation of disloyalty irked David, that he got his troops ready to go after Nabal and his household. But the kind intervention of Abigail, the wife of Nabal pacified David’s anger and brought the situation under control. She “took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and an hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs” and presented them to David and his men. Her oratory and soothing words turned away the wrath of David. Scripture says: “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1) An appreciative David received the bounty from her, and magnified the LORD for withholding him from shedding blood. It is safe to say that Abigail’s communicative skills, large-heart, and above all, the grace of God bespeak of the suitability of the theme
