Theme: DEMANDS OF TRUE DISCIPLESHIP

Text: “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – John 8:31, 32.

Comment: Possessing the accurate knowledge of  God (the Truth) is a vital requirement of a true follower of Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ is the Wisdom of God personified, as well as the Truth personified (1 Corinthians 1:24;  John 14:6).  Even from his childhood, Jesus Christ displayed the knowledge of God when he discussed with lawyers and doctors of the law at age 12. – Luke 2:40-52.

On an occasion, when he had attained adulthood, as Jesus Christ preached in the synagogue, people were astonished at the wisdom of God he displayed. (Mark 6:2) Having been with Jesus Christ, the early apostles displayed the knowledge of God to the surprise and amazement of people.  After healing the lame man at the beautiful gate, Peter and John were apprehended.  Then St. Peter opened his mouth and spoke fearlessly about Jesus  Christ to the Jewish leaders who instantly realized and acknowledged that Peter and John had been tutored by Jesus Christ. – Acts 4:8-13.

As true disciples of Jesus Christ, we are expected to possess the knowledge of God in the Bible even from childhood, “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” – 2 Timothy 3:15.

It is with the knowledge of God that we will “… earnestly contend for the faith” and  be ready to answer every man the reason of the hope that is in us. – Jude 3;  1 Peter 3:15.
