Theme: DEALING WITH OUR DOUBTS AND FEARS

Text: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1.

Comment: By this definition of Faith, St Paul shows to us that the entirety of a Christian life is based on faith. The mighty things accomplished by men and women of God in the holy Bible were only possible because their faith in God were beyond their fears and suppressed their doubts. “For by it the elders obtained a good report.” – Hebrews 11:2.

A clear example of how much we can achieve by faith even in dire situations and conditions when the future is bleak is found in the story of Elijah the prophet of God and the woman of Zarephat. It was a time of severe famine. The woman was gathering sticks to prepare the last food for herself and her son before they wait for death by hunger. But “Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.” She obeyed and the word of God fulfilled to the letter. – 1 Kings 17:13-16. St Paul informs us “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” – Romans 15:4.
