Theme: Wilful Idleness And Willing Workers

Text: “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”- 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

Comment: God requires faithful service from His people at all times. Therefore, thanksgiving to God should not be limited to when good things happen to us.  We should give thanks even in adversity.  We should learn from the example of Job who, having lost all his children and wealth in one day “…fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither (grave): the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly”. (Job 1:20-22) Job knew that the purpose of satan’s attack on him was for him to curse God and be killed. He knew these adversities could only have come on him because God allowed them and that God has only good thoughts for His worshippers. Hence, he declared: “when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold”. (Job 23:10) And this fulfilled in all senses of the word, as Job emerged from his fiery trial having double of all that he lost before. (Job 42:12-17; James 5:10,11) Apostle Paul declared: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28.
