Theme: BE YE WISE AS SERPENTS AND HARMLESS AS DOVES

Text: “Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the spirit.” – Ephesians 5: 17, 18.

Comment: There is need for all persons of goodwill towards God to have a good understanding of His will. This requires getting the accurate knowledge of God which is essential for salvation. Christ said: “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (John 17:3) This knowledge enables one to appreciate the goodness of God and to endeavour to do things that will give glory to the Almighty God. Indeed, King Solomon stated: “Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good…” (Proverbs 19:2; see also Hosea 4:6). Thus, a good knowledge and understanding of the will of God will enable worshippers of God to be spiritually vigilant and to always devote their lives to the service of the Almighty God, especially in these last days in order to obtain the protection, blessings and salvation of God.

The text for today also warns against the consumption of alcoholic beverages without discretion and moderation. (See Proverbs 2:10,11; Philippians 4:5) Those who do so get a snare to themselves. (Proverbs 20:1; Isaiah 5:11,22) The Bible says: “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31-33. See also Philippians 4:5.
