Theme: BE YE DOERS OF THE WORD

Text: “…The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat: All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.”  – Matthew 23:2, 3.

Comment:  Majority of people who profess the Christian faith today only do so by word of mouth but do not care to keep its tenets.  It was because of this attitude of showing off with flourish their piety or devoutness without bothering about the practical aspects of the faith that our Lord Jesus Christ indicted the Pharisees, who were the religious leaders in those days. The counterparts of these religious leaders, who say one thing and do another, abound today.  Our Saviour told them: “Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” (Matthew 15:7-9) We should not be mere lip worshippers. “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat: All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.” (Matthew 23:2-3) Again Jesus Christ warned: “For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:20.
