Theme: THE GOLDEN RULE

Text: “And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.” – Genesis 13:8.

Comment: The story of Abraham and his nephew Lot is one of the stories in the Holy Bible that teaches the lesson of the Golden Rule in that Abraham treated Lot with love. The Bible shows that when their possessions increased, “…the land was not able to bear them… And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle…” (Genesis 13:2-7) In resolving this family feud, Abraham considered the interest of his nephew by suggesting separation and gave him the option to make the first choice, though he (Abraham) was the elder. (Genesis 13:9) Thus, the Golden Rule is a good model for peace and conflict resolution among people, families, communities and nations. The Scripture says: “Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.” – 1 Corinthians 10:24.
