Theme: LOOK TO YOURSELF

Text: “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” – Genesis 2:23, 24.

Comment: After graciously creating the woman for the man, God brought the woman to the man, who, being a perfect man, recognised her as having come from him – the word woman meaning “from man”. The two were created to work together to realise the purpose for which human beings were created on earth. The advantage of marriage is that through it the couple are able to support and help one another, by way of companionship, advice, encouragement and so on. In Ecclesiastes 4:9 -12 we are told: “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Husbands and wives should examine themselves if they are helping one another in every way possible, especially in crisis periods so that they would be striving together in the race of salvation.

Apostle Peter exhorted that husbands should dwell with their wives “according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel”, pointing out that the couple are “heirs together of the grace of life”. – 1 Peter 3:7.
