Theme: THE GOLDEN RULE
Text: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” – Deuteronomy 6:4,5.
Comment: This was the charge given to the natural Jews by God Almighty through Moses the Prophet. To love God Almighty with all our heart, soul and might means being ready and willing to give first consideration to the work of God at all times.
The woman of Zarephath provides a good example of one who denied herself for the work of God, giving to Elisha the prophet what she would have had for herself. When the prophet told her to fetch water for her, she was ready to give him, even though water was scarce as there had been no rain. But as she was going to bring the water, the prophet asked for a morsel of bread. But she had only an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse which she was preparing for herself and her son after which they would wait for death. But the prophet said, “The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth”. Because of her faith, she did as requested – “and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days”. (1 Kings 17:10-16) There is great reward in obeying the word of God and in supporting His servant. Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “…Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” – Matthew 25:40.
