Theme: THE SIN OF DISOBEDIENCE

Text: “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good.” – 2 Timothy 3:1-3.

Comment: One of the many evils that will be experienced in this age of the end of the world is that children will be disobedient to the godly instructions, advice and warnings of their parents. Today, some children look down on their parents, some even talk back at their parents. Some do so because they see their parents as poor or as being too naïve to steal as much as possible when they had the opportunity. “All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.” (Proverbs 19:7) Some children also disregard their parents because they see themselves as being far more knowledgeable than they – the same parents, who bore the pains of their pregnancy and delivery, as well as, paid for them to obtain a formal education. Disobedience to the godly instructions of parents is wrong in the sight of God. We should pay heed to the following admonitions: “My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother.” (Proverbs 6:20) “Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.” (Proverbs 23:22) St Paul admonished, “Children obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother, (which is the first commandment with promise;) that it may be well with, thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth”. – Ephesians 6:1-3.
