Theme: Prudence

Text: “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” – Isaiah 5:21.

Comment: Prudence is used in the text under reference in a slightly different context though it still refers to being wise. But here it refers to people who are wise in their own conceit. (Romans 12:16) To be wise in one’s own sight is to believe in one’s ways without paying attention to truth, to knowledge, and to godly counsel. A person who is stuck in his own ways without listening to others could make the mistake that could cause death. (Proverbs 14:12) Let us pray to God to help us not to be wise in our own eyes but to “be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” – Colossians 1:9, 10.
