Theme: THE VOICE OF CONSCIENCE
Text: “But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” – Genesis 39:8, 9.
Comment: Many people in today’s world ignore their voices of conscience especially when they see that they stand to make material gains or some form of pleasure in a particular situation. Morality and the fear of God are usually pushed to the backstage at this point. Such people think gain equates to godliness. (1 Timothy 6:5) They do not consider the repercussions of their actions in the long run. However, while listening to one’s conscience may mean losses of material gain, ultimately, it results in one being on the LORD’S side of favour. The lead text for today highlights young Joseph’s response to the amorous advances of his master’s wife. Being a God-fearing young man, Joseph did not for a moment consider giving-in to her selfish and evil desires nor did he consider the fleshly pleasures he might derive. Instead, he allowed his pure conscience coupled with the fear of God to guide him in upholding the statutes of the Lord. – Mark 8:36; Proverbs 1:10-19.
