Theme: Christians and Vows

Text: “For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines”. – Judges 13:5.

Comment: The grace of God comes as an undeserved favour. Apostle Paul quoting what the LORD told Moses said: “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy”. (Romans 9:15) Since it is the express will of the Father to bless Manoah and his wife with a son, an angel of the LORD was sent to inform the woman that she should abstain from wine and unclean foods because she would give birth to a Nazarite whose hair no razor would cut.  “A Nazarite, is a Hebrew word for one who is consecrated, separated and devoted solely to the LORD.  In comparison to the Jewish Nazarites of old, true worshippers of God today, should endeavor to dedicate themselves towards holiness; separate themselves from carnality and devote or “pass the time off your sojourning here in fear”. (1 Peter 1:17) Apostle Paul, admonishing Christians, said: “And be not conformed to this world” – Romans 12:2
