Theme: MAINTAINING GOOD WORKS

Text: “Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you?” –  1 Samuel 12:3.

Comment: It is not enough for one to trumpet his righteousness. It is even enviable, and worth emulating, for one to both declare his good works and challenge others to publicly indict or challenge them. King Solomon declares, “Most men will proclaim everyone his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?” – Proverbs 20:6.

St. Paul in 2 Corinthians 7:2 openly declared his innocence, the Prophet Moses did so in Numbers 16:15.  The Prophet Samuel, in sincerity, confidently recalled, at old age, his good works in the course of his service to God, before his fellow compatriots, the natural Israel of old. That he did this at an advanced age, speaks volume of one thing; he was persistent in good works. This is what is expected of persons in authority. Proverbs 16:12 states, “It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.”
