Text: “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!” – Isaiah 5:11.
Comment: Some have the unwholesome habit of drinking alcoholic liquor until they get tipsy. Drinking wine itself is not a sin when taken in moderation. (1 Timothy 5:23; Philippians 4:5) It is the abysmal extent of drinking in excess that brings about being tipsy or drunk which makes one to start hallucinating and misbehaving in public bringing shame and disgrace to oneself and one’s family. (Proverbs 23:29-35, Proverbs 20:1; Isaiah 5:22) As a measure to overcome drinking, it is pertinent to avoid places where one can get intoxicated with wine. The awareness that drunkenness is one of the sins that would prevent one from entering the Kingdom of God is the most important deterrent to drinking wine in excess. – 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10.
