Theme: OVERCOMING BEHAVIOURAL DISORDER

Text: “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment.” – Exodus 23:2.

Comment: There are unwholesome peer groups or deviant friend groups where individuals bow or succumb to the pressure of engaging in unanimously agreed deviant behaviours such as rape, theft, vandalism, bullying, etc., even among children. These peer groups have bad or negative social influence on innocent children as they may grow to become deviants who cannot relate well or function productively in the society. It is commonly said: “Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are.” A friend or group of friends whose discussions are always centred on carrying out evil acts should be avoided. (Proverbs 1:10-19; 4:14-18) Amnon’s friend, Jonadab advised him on how he (Amnon) could rape his own half-sister Tamar to satisfy his infatuation for her. This, in the long run led to Amnon’s death. – 2 Samuel 13:1-29
