Theme: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A GOOD PERSONAL IDENTITY

Text: “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.” – 2 Corinthians 13:5, 6.

Comment: The Oxford Dictionary defines REPROBATE as “a person who behaves in a way that society thinks is immoral”. Scripturally it means, ‘counterfeit’, ‘fake’, ‘an impure or vain person’. Highlighting some Christian virtues for righteous living, Apostle Peter stated, “For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins…” (2 Peter 1:5-11) Self-examination is necessary for one to maintain a good reputation, not to give cause for God’s Name to be blasphemed. (Romans 2:21-24; Titus 2:4, 5; 2 Peter 2:1, 2) Apostle Paul examined himself in order not to “be a castaway” – 1 Corinthians 9:27. See also Romans 8:10-14.
