Theme: THE TRIAL OF OUR FAITH

Text: “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.” – Hebrews 13:17.

Comment: Obedience is a requirement for true worshippers in the service of God. Unfortunately, the proliferation of evil communications has impacted negatively on the faith of some, resulting in widespread acts of disobedience among those who profess the Christian faith. The Scriptures show that leaders are always the targets of Satan’s attacks, “for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.” – Matthew 26:31.

Therefore, perceived wrong or mistakes done by leaders should not be used as justification to disobey God’s instructions. The disobedience of Saul made him to forfeit the throne and the eventual loss of his life. (1 Samuel 15:22, 23; 31) We should therefore run away from being rebellious, instead, we should strive to be obedient so as to enjoy the favour of God at all times. We should also honour those in position of leadership because they are continually the focus of devil’s attacks. Scripture says; “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.” (1 Timothy 5:17) We should also be praying for them. “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:1, 2.
