Theme: Wilful Idleness And Willing Workers

Text: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58.

Comment: The Marriam Webster Dictionary defines the word ‘Steadfast’ as, “firm in belief, determination or adherence.” An enduring firm belief (faith) and determination is thus required while serving God. Unfortunately, both in time of old and in contemporary times, many receive the gospel message with great zeal but falter midway when faced with temptations, persecutions, and vicissitudes of life. In the Parable of the Sower, our Lord passed a very important message which teaches us that it is not how well one starts but how well one ends the race of Salvation that matters. – Matthew 13:3-8,18-23.

The bottom line is the continuation of our faith till the end. The disastrous end of Judas Iscariot, one of the Apostles of Christ is an example of one who did not continue to abound in the work of our Lord till the end. He allowed greed for wealth to deny him of the heavenly grace whereunto he was called. – Acts 1:15-18.

Drawing from the sad end of Judas therefore, people of God must remain vigilant, steadfast, disciplined, faithful, knowledgeable, enduring and above all, prayerful always so as to avoid falling into Satan’s snares, and thereby risk forfeiting the reward of salvation at the end. See 1 Peter 5:8; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.
