Theme: THE DANGER OF TALE BEARING AND RASH JUDGMENT
Text: “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbour.” – Exodus 20:16.
Comment: Talebearing, Slandering and Lie-telling, all go hand in hand and the result is always a false report, a false witness against innocent persons. In extreme cases, innocent persons have been killed, maimed, or jailed as a result of false witness which is the result of talebearing. God’s law as stated in the text for today is very explicit concerning false witness and talebearing. Christians who seek to please their Maker should desist from these evil vices, so as to keep their families, organizations and circles free of rancour and acrimony. Furthermore, it is written, “You shall not utter a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man, to be a malicious witness. You shall not follow a multitude to do evil; nor shall you bear witness in a suit, turning aside after a multitude, so as to pervert justice.” – Exodus 23:1, 2 (Revised Standard Version).
