Theme: BE YE DOERS OF THE WORD

Text: “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so…” – Acts 17:10-12

Comment: Some people close their ears to doctrines that are different from the ones they know. This is not good, for, it is only by comparing what one has heard with what one knows that one can enrich one’s stock of knowledge and be able to judge whether what one believes in is correct or not. In spite of the fact that people derided the teachings of St. Paul, the people of Berea were able to appreciate the truth preached by him “in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” and so many of them joined the faith.  On this score Apostle James exhorted: “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear…” (James 1:19) Those who are eager to hear the word of God will be glad to go to places of worship where the truth about God and His Kingdom is preached. (Psalm 122:1) They would also gladly do what they have learnt for which God will be blessing them more and more. “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways …O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!” – Psalm 119:1-5.
