Theme: THE DANGER OF TALE BEARING AND RASH JUDGMENT

Text: “You shall not utter a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man, to be a malicious witness. You shall not follow a multitude to do evil; nor shall you bear witness in a suit, turning aside after a multitude, so as to pervert justice.” – Exodus 23:1, 2 (Revised Standard Version).

Comment: Talebearers are adjudged in the scriptures as wicked persons and no wicked man shall inherit the kingdom of God fully established, except they repent. (1 Corinthians 6:9, 10; Proverbs 10:30) Some persons appear in court to bear witnesses of cases they know nothing about, just because they have been promised one favour or another, or because they have received payment. In most instances, innocent persons are convicted of crimes they did not commit, some are even sentenced to life imprisonment or death. Whoever has hands in such have God’s judgement waiting for them. (Ecclesiastes 8:11; 3:17; Matthew 12:35-37) As Christians, we should not be part of such wicked act, neither should we be witness at any issues we know nothing about. People should have the confidence to get true facts about matters we are aware of; at any time, the need arises. Our Lord Jesus Christ gave instructions to his followers never to swear or bear any false witness. Let our yes be yes, and our no, no. – Matthew 5:33-37.
