Text: “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help; whose hope is in the LORD his God.” – Psalm 146:5.
Comment: While the Israelites sojourned in Egypt under the Pharaoh that did not know Joseph for 400 years, they cried to and hoped in God for deliverance. In God’s due time, He showed His wonders and delivered the Israelites from the Egyptian bondage. (Exodus 2:23-25; Genesis 15:13, 14) Moses the prophet attested to this when he said: “And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders”. (Deuteronomy 26:8) God’s deliverance of the Israelites from the oppressive hands of Pharaoh and the Egyptians pictures His love for His children, who have hope in Him, and their eventual liberation from the hands of Satan the devil and his cohorts. Truly, God Almighty is the help of His people. The Psalmist said: “Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.” – Psalm 124:8. See also Psalm 121:1, 2.
