Theme: THE SIN OF DISOBEDIENCE

Text: “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous” – Romans 5:19.

Comment: The origin of the sinful nature of man dates back to the cradle of life at the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve, at the instance of the devil, disobeyed the law of God and ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. ((Genesis 2:16,17; 3: 1-6) God Almighty, being a God of justice, gave them the opportunity of fair hearing and they were found guilty. (Genesis 3:9-13) In exercise of His infinite attribute of justice, God Almighty passed His divine sentence on Adam and Eve: in sorrow shall the woman bring forth children, the ground was cursed for the man’s sake: it was to bring forth thorns and thistles; the man will labour before he would eat until he dies and returns to the ground. – Genesis 3:16-19.

St Paul attested to the fact that it was through one man (Adam) that sin and death came into the world. (Romans 5:12) It is through Jesus Christ that man is freed from the scourge of sin. (Galatians 3:13; 1 Timothy 2:5,6) We should therefore strive not to be deceived again to disobey the laws of God as Adam did so as to have access to the tree of life. St Paul stated: “Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.” – 1 Corinthians 10:6; Revelation 2:7.
