Theme: WORKING OUT OUR SALVATION WITH FEAR AND TREMBLING

Text: “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:15,16.

Comment: The period we are living in and the present state of this evil world is a time in which a true and sober-minded worshipper of God who understands the signs of the time must avoid any form of carelessness and be wise in all that he does. The Holy Scripture says: “…Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day…let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober…” (1 Thessalonians 5:1-8; Romans 13:11-14)  And, after highlighting some major events and signs that will befall this sin-ridden world in this last day, Jesus Christ admonished the children of God, thus: “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh”. – Luke 21:28. See also verses 25-27, 34-36.

Like Noah and Lot in ancient time who, despite the wide-spread godlessness around them in their days, continued to hold their heads above the waters, (2 Peter 2:5-8) Christians today are not to relent but to continue to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling in this perverse generation. Moreover, St. Paul wrote: “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace… So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” – Romans 8:5-8.
