Theme: Christians and Vows

Text: “And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God”.  – Luke 9:61, 62.

Comment: The call of God to worship Him in His Holy Mount is an exceptional privilege from the Almighty Father especially, taking into consideration the world’s population and Satan’s sweeping attempt to lure many people to falsehood. Jesus Christ says, “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:44.) In appreciation of his call, Levi, whose other name is, Matthew, a tax collector called a feast in thanksgiving to God. (Matthew 9:9-13; Mark 2:14-17; Luke 5:27-29) In like manner, therefore, a sincere worshipper that is called into God’s Holy Organisation through the gospel message, or by personal invitation, or through the activities of the Church or through marriage or by any other means has to make good his vow to serve God by diligently and faithfully obeying the Lord’s instructions and moving away from sin, which is of the devil. See 2 Peter 1:5-11; Romans 6:1-6.
