PROMOTION

Text: “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” –  Proverbs 10:22.

Comment: The promotion or honour that comes from God is full of His divine favour and it endures.  Promotion with its attendant blessings, including wealth is that which most people have their hearts very much upon, but some do mistake both in the nature of the thing they desire and in the way by which they want to obtain it.  What we should understand in today’s text is that, the blessings given to one by God is not characterized by abundance only but by the fact that “there is no sorrow associated with it, no vexation of spirit in the enjoyment of it, no disquieting care to get and keep it, no tormenting grief for the loss of it, no guilt contracted by the abuse of it, but rather, to have it and relish in the comfort of it, to do good with it and to serve God with joyfulness and gladness of heart in the  use of it”.

Honest labour or diligence is a pre-condition for getting divine blessing. (Proverbs 22:29)  King Solomon declared: “He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.” (Proverbs 10:4).  Our respective promotions in our endeavours must be attributed to the Almighty God bearing in mind that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” – James 1:17.  See also Psalm 75:6,7.
