Text: “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots”. – Luke 23:34.
Comment: Despite all he suffered for us, Jesus Christ our lord and master, showed us ultimate love, when he made the prayer, which is the text under reference. “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do”. No wonder he himself stated, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. (John 15:13). The coming of our and Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, is God’s manifestation of His love for mankind. Christ stated, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. (John 3:16). Apostle Paul added, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. – Romans 5:8.
If God Almighty would show us this much love despite our frail and sinful nature, why would we live any short of this standard. After all, man is made in the image and likeness of God and one of His great attributes, which He also endowed in us, is love.
Anyone who has no love in his/her heart, denies and defies his true nature and has no part with God or His son Jesus Christ.
As true disciples, as true Christians, we can only prove our claim by working towards becoming like our Master. Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. – 1 Peter 1:16; Leviticus 11:44-45.
