Text: “Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood: Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?” – Job 22:15-17.
Comment: The Webster’s Dictionary defines the word “wicked” to mean “morally bad, evil; disposed to or marked by mischief; causing or likely to cause harm, distress, or trouble.” Generally, a wicked person is seen as one who is cruel to others; who derives pleasure from showing aggression with a motive of inflicting harm or killing another individual.
From the Bible point of view wicked people are those who persist in error or wrong doing in spite of having received the knowledge of God. Ezekiel the prophet was inspired by God to describe a wicked person in these words: “a robber, a shedder of blood, … (one who) defiled his neighbour’s wife, Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, … and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination.” – Ezekiel 18:10-12.
God hates the person who is presumptuous, one who goes beyond what is right, proper, or appropriate because of an excess of self-confidence or arrogance”. Such ones even deride the word of God and do not regard His word. The Bible says that the nation and kindred that will not serve God will be destroyed. (Isaiah 60:12) The wicked should therefore take warning and retrace their steps. “Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.”
