Text: “…The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine…” – 1 Samuel 17:37.
Comment: In biblical times when physical combat was the vogue and weapons for that nature of warfare were employed, many died in battles. One that quickly comes to mind is the instance of David the son of Jesse. By faith in the name of the Most High, he defeated woefully the giant of Gath known as Goliath in a contest. When he approached Goliath with a staff, five smooth stones and a sling, in the absence of a helmet or coat of mail, the giant thought David had no protection or chances of winning the battle. Little did he know that his faith was a mightier weapon of defense than any weapon of war. The outcome of that gruesome contest is already history. David smote and slew the mighty giant, while the Philistines fled in disarray. Thus faith triumphed and God’s name was vindicated and glorified. – 1 Samuel 17:45-50; Psalm 18:31-36.
