Text: “And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake… Quench not the Spirit.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:12, 13, 19.
Comment: As against strengthening the hands of the wicked by oral pronouncements, associating with or even emulating them, Psalm 15:4 talks of honouring “them that fear the LORD.” Highlighting the good deeds of others serves as a form of encouragement for them to continue in good works. Enumerated in Hebrews chapter 11 are ancient worthies who “obtained a good report through faith”. (Verse 39) St. Paul, writing to Timothy stated, “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.” (1 Timothy 5:17) Christians can learn to be like our Heavenly Father Who is not unrighteous to forget our work and labour of love, by always acknowledging, honouring or commending those who are doing well. This no doubt, gives one a feeling of recognition and appreciation. – Luke 7:2-5; Philippians 2:19-23.
