Theme: BIBLE PERSPECTIVES ON LEADERSHIP

Text: “Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken?  Or whose ass have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? And I will restore it you.” – 1 Samuel 12:3.

Comment: Samuel the prophet made the declaration as stated in the text for today.  The glowing response he had from the people was an exemplary, monumental and honorable testimony borne by his integrity, honesty, fear of God and transparency. (1 Samuel 12:4)  It was also an overwhelming challenge to which the people were left with no option but to testify and acknowledge his good leadership. A just debt which every man owes to his own good name, especially men in public offices or leaders, is to guard against unjust aspersions and suspicions that bring shame and dishonor. “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches…” (Proverbs 22:1) While the way of the upright is open, transparent and straight-forward, the wicked are marked by deceit, craftiness, and selfishness. – Proverbs 15:19.
