Text: “Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.” – Hebrews 4:1.
Comment: It pays a great deal for one to exercise faith in the gospel of truth, God’s word. This entails believing in His existence, and in His faithfulness to grant justification to those that seek Him with all diligence, as well as condemnation to those who insist in unrighteousness. (Hebrew 11:6) It beats the imagination when one reflects on how the wife of Lot who had successfully escaped destruction, brought same upon herself. Saint Paul on two instances provided us with the answer when he wrote: “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” (Hebrews 4:2, 11; 3:18) Earlier, he had warned: “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” – 1 Corinthians 10:12.
