Theme:THE FUTILITY OF WORLDLY WISDOM

Text: “The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken; lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?” – Jeremiah 8:9.

Comment: The futility of man’s wisdom played out after the First World War at the establishment of the League of Nations. In prophecy the League of Nations stood in a holy place (Matthew 24:15) in that it was acclaimed as “the political expression of God’s Kingdom on earth.” But it is true that it was a hybrid of an organisation where atheists, agnostics and all sorts of sceptics including professors, philosophers and so-called wise men of the world, an unholy union of people of different and divided faith sat down to proffer solutions to the problems facing the world, promising absolute peace that only God Almighty can provide. The League of Nations caused desolations to many countries, especially in Europe and Asia during the Second World War. The failure of that international body is a clear manifestation of the vanity of human wisdom and of how futile men’s endeavour can be where God is relegated to the background. – Isaiah 8:9; Jeremiah 8:8, 9.
