Text: “And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. And they had no child, because that Elizabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.” – Luke 1:6, 7.
Comment: Anyone who has set himself out to do the Lord’s bidding has pitched his tent against the devil. (2 Timothy 3:12; Acts 14:22) A fruitful marriage is not a function of one’s righteousness, neither is childlessness a product of one’s wickedness. Barrenness is an act of Satan. The devil brings frustrating circumstances to make the ardent worshipper doubt his own efforts in God’s service. Zechariah had long retired himself wholesomely to God’s will. So diligent he was in his service to God that when God’s time came, he could hardly imagine the possibility of his request being granted. Let this approach adapted by this noble couple be our guide as to make us abound in good works while we wait diligently on God and His time by His grace. – Psalm 27:13, 14.
