Theme: ANXIETY

Text: “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” – Matthew 6:25.

Comment: We often feel anxious about our finances: How can we meet this month’s bills? How will I be able to fix my aging car if it breaks down? What if I lose my job? How will we put the kids through college? How can we meet our medical bills? How will we ever save enough for retirement? What if the economy fails? These are some of the questions begging for answers in our minds. Unbeknown to us, worries and anxiety, begin to occupy our thoughts and medically, this may result to a total break-down of the body.

The text for today, reminds us that we should not be unnecessarily anxious or worried about things that are beyond our reach, rather, we should rely on the providence of God Almighty in everything. Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, tells us that God knows all we pass through at the instance of the Devil and then he said: “Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?” (Matthew 6:30) He then added: “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” – Matthew 6:34.
