Theme: THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Text: “But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak” – Matthew 10:19.

Comment: God Almighty conveys His word to mankind through His servants or messengers. He causes His word to be written for the benefit of future generations. He gives His servants the understanding of His word and utterance through the holy spirit.  (2 Peter 1:20, 21) In view of the hostility of the religious leaders to the preaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the certainty that his disciples would be dragged to the courts from time to time, he had to assure the 70 disciples not to worry on what to say. (Matthew 10:19) This fulfilled on the apostles. “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13) The apostles further prayed for the spirit of courage so that they could preach the word with boldness. This was granted. (Acts 4:23-31) We still see the working of the holy spirit in giving utterances to His faithful children, during preaching, counseling, prayers,  and in delicate situations when they gave answers that disarmed their foes by God’s grace. “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” – Isaiah 30:21.
