Text: “I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.” – Luke 15:7.
Comment: The righteous, that is those who practice God’s righteousness, (1 John 3:7) are very precious in the eyes of God. (Psalm 116:15) The unrighteous, that is, those who practice unrighteousness or sin, must change their way of life and repent so as to have the mercy of God. God Almighty through Ezekiel the Prophet stated that “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live…” (Ezekiel 33:11). Furthermore, Apostle Peter revealed that: “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9). In today’s text, Jesus Christ confirmed to the world that God and His angels are happy with repentant sinners. So, what sin is there we are burdened with? No matter how bad it may seem in our eyes, we should commit to making a U-turn today by God’s grace. (Psalm 34:7) Our Saviour invited us thus: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30.
