Theme: HOPE THOU IN GOD

Text: “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” – Psalm 42:11.

Comment: Though we live in a world filled with distress, God Almighty remains the health of our countenance as He is the One who brings us succour or relief from such distresses. (Psalm 9:9, 10) David, a King and Prophet of God went through great distress both at the hand of King Saul and at the hand of the Philistines who both wanted him dead, but he encouraged himself in his distressing state and cried to God for help. (1 Samuel 30:1-6) As worshippers of God going through the storms of life, we are expected to encourage ourselves in the Lord with the enlivening word of God in the Holy Bible and place our hope in God for help (Psalm 119:50) Jeremiah the prophet declared: “It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.” – Lamentations 3:26. See also Romans 15:13.
