Text: “O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.” – Psalm 107:1, 2.
Comment: Left for our chief adversary, the devil, no one would be alive to fulfill the very purpose of human existence, which is, the praise of God. The devil had earlier made a threat concerning God’s children in general, herein represented by the patriarch Job. (Job 1:11) In other words, the devil believes he has what it takes to weaken our resolve to practice the righteousness of God. Whatsoever may be the machinations of Satan, our strength comes from the knowledge of the fact that: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.” (Psalm 46:1, 2, 7) In addition to blessing the name of God, King David added: “Who redeemeth thy life from destruction”. (Psalm 103:4) To all who have tasted of God’s miraculous deliverance, one way or the other, today’s devotional beckons on them to declare same.
