Theme: PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

Text: “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.” – Proverbs 19:17.

Comment:   Whoever says he is serving God but does not show love to his fellow man by way of doing good to him whenever the opportunity comes, is yet to mature in understanding. The mistake some people make is to believe that it is when they give to those who are rich they would get good return on their “investment” since the rich people will pay them back one way or the other. But that is not good arithmetic according to God’s standards. Jesus Christ the Saviour says, “…When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.” (Luke 14:12-14) Solomon the prophet says: “He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.” (Proverbs 28:27)  “But whoso hath this world’s good,” asserts Apostle John, “and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” – 1 John 3:17,18; see also John 13:34,35.
