Text: “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” – Jude 1:3.
Comment: The common salvation is eternal life which is the promise God has given all His children who serve Him faithfully until the end. (1 John 2:25;) It was in this sense therefore that St. Paul explained that in Christ Jesus there is “neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus”. (Galatians 3:26-28) We should study the Bible diligently and do what is required of us so that the spirit of God will dwell in us and give us the courage and wisdom to defend the faith. St. Paul stated that he is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: “for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek…” (Romans 1:16, 17) and that he is “set for the defence of the gospel”. (Philippians 1:17) It is by fighting “the good fight of faith”, as St. Paul told Timothy that we would be able to lay hold on eternal life for which we have been called. Our Lord Jesus Christ warned “Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” – Mark 8:38
