Theme: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WORD OF GOD

Text: “Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.” – Hebrews 12:12, 13

Comment: We have a lot to learn from the words of Apostle Paul in his letter to the Hebrews in which he exhorted them to “lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees” as stated in the text. The word “lift up” signifies not simply to elevate, but to “rectify” or set right again, restoring them to their proper state, so as to apply them to duty. The text is talking of a situation in which one is becoming weak in faith, is fearful and perhaps, even set on taking a compromising course. Such ones should be exhorted so as to be enlivened and be strong in their trust in the power of God Almighty to help them out of their troubles in His own due time. Speaking through Isaiah the prophet God Almighty stated, “Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.” (Isaiah 35:3, 4. Please look up also 1 Thessalonians 5:14) In the days of Asa when he carried out extensive religious reforms to turn Israel to fully serve the true God, Azariah the son of Oded, the prophet of God was sent to encourage him, he declared “Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.” – 2 Chronicles 15:7.
